How to Make a Zolino Friendship Bracelet
This Zolino friendship bracelet is cute isn’t it?
It is knotted differently than your typical floss friendship band. See how there are distinct shapes? Kind of like overlapping squares. It’s called a “zolino” after the person that designed it originally.
There is a video below, and you’ll also see written instructions. I hope they aren’t too confusing!
What You Need to Make the Zolino Bracelet:
- Embroidery floss or yarn in different colors. The example bracelet in the video uses 6 colors
Variations: You can use as many color’s as you want . With more colors you use the wider the bracelet will be
You can also use less colors. If you use two pairs of colors or 2 different colors half the triangle would be of one color while the other half the other color.
For the bracelet in the video you need 1 pair for each color (ie two strings) per color.
Cut your strings to approx. about 60″ to 65″.
Zolino Bracelet Instructions, Notes and Tips
SETUP: 1 2 3 4 5 6 (Middle) 6 5 4 3 2 1
(For 8 Color’s) : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 (Middle) 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
Step 1: Separate the thread into 2 groups and find the center.
Put the right most section aside and work with your left most section first
Step 2: Starting with your far left string make 5 forward knots in this case. (If it was with 8 string’s then it would be 7 forward knot’s) on the remaining strings.
Step 3: Take your next color in line and work your way with 4 forward knots making sure not to knot/tie it on the thread you just worked with previously.
Step 4: Keep doing this until you run out of colors with the next 3 forward knots, then with 2 FKs And finally with 1.
Step 5: Keep the left section which you just worked with previously to the side and repeat steps 2-4 again with the right section only this time doing backward knots.
Step 6: Bring back both sections and join both strings of the same color from either side with a forward knot at the centre.
Step 7: Again repeat 1 (ie dividing the both into two group) with 1 color on each side.
Step 8 ; Turn the bracelet 90 degrees to the left and pin it to your clipboard.
Repeat steps 2-4
Step 9 Turn the bracelet to the original position. And from then on make another 90 degree turn to the right and pin it to your clipboard.
Repeat steps 2-4
To continue, start from step 1 again and work your way through the whole bracelet accordingly until desired length.
