STRING ART EARRINGS IN BRASS

There are dozens of tutorials for these on the internet and even a couple on YouTube.com. The only problem was finding a tidy way to secure the top. So I tried and tried and tried and FINALLY got it.

I figured out that by making spirals on both ends of the length of straight wire FIRST (do one, slip on the spring, then the other) works best. Next position one spiral in one direction and the other spiral in the opposite direction as you complete the teardrop. Secure them with a jump ring. And … VOILA It works! Now you can wrap the string neatly onto the spring. It’s tidy AND secure.

Hmm!!! So Nice

These are beautiful.
I would feed wire through the coils if I was using wire to make them, it would strengthen the coils and help keep the shape.

I make a few using wire instead of string and they came out nicely but there is one problem that you must be aware of. If you pull the wire too taught, the frame will loose it’s shape and your wraps will pop off. I’ll keep a watch on your site to see yours.

By the way, aren’t they BLAST to make? I really had fun! I had a teenager over the evening I made them and we stayed up half the night!

I hope you are enjoying making them as much as we do!

Looks great! I know I have been trying to find a way to make mine look nice and tide. I found one where you use wire instead of string and that wraps up nicely too. I don’t have any on my web site now, but I hope to soon!
