Childs Necklace Too Short
by: Anonymous

I made a Princess necklace for my neice’s 4th birthday.

The beading was 8″ because 6″ looked way too small and then I added a clasp. The clasp broke which was a lucky accident.

I then used 6″ of silk ribbon on each end, leaving plenty of length for tying it into a bow.

When I put it on her neck and tied it the actual length turned out to be about 12″. If I had followed the recommended length of 6″ for a four year old girl she would now be dead from strangulation.

She has a normal-to-skinny sized body, not overweight by any means. It fit comfortably and she wore it all day.

Clasps Suggestions
by: Anonymous

For children a magnetic clasp is a good option. Also good for older adults or anyone with stiff joints.

Appreciate your putting together the size charts.

Size Charts
by: Polly

I am new to jewellery crafting and I found this site to be a godsend!

I had been asked to make a necklace for a child (age wasn’t given to me) so your chart showing size and allowing for grow room was such a help.

Many many thanks.

Over the head necklace
by: Rose

Hi, I am making necklaces for a lot of young girls ranging in age, from my “bead soup”.

I am not using clasps but making over the head type necklaces. Most of them seem to be coming out around 18-22 inches.

Looking at the finished product, they look too small to go over the child’s head.

Am I ok and it’s just an optical thing that makes them look too small to me or are they too small?

I know they will be long necklaces on them and that’s ok.

Help me figure it out please.

Perfect guide
by: Anonymous

Thank you for posting the size guide for children.

I’ve promised my 6 year old niece I’ll make her a sparkly necklace and bracelet set but had no clue how long to make them.

I really didn’t want to get it wrong this time of year so thank you, you’ve saved me from a probably faux pas.

You Made My Morning That Much Easier!!
by: Anonymous

I am making all my last minute Christmas gifts.

This was very helpful glad to find this info so quickly! The magnetic clasp is a great idea, I am making a necklace for a 2 year old and was concerned what will happen if she gets fussy and wants to pull it off.

Thanks for the ideas and the info!!

Necklace length for a 5 year old.
by: Anonymous

I too find this information very useful. I had to design 4-5 necklace for a 5 yr old sweet girl.

As the order was placed online I was searching for the approximate necklace length. It should not be neither to long or too short.

I feel length between 12-14 inches would be ideal.

Thanks a lot.

re childs necklace chart size. GREAT!
by: Maria

Just what I’m looking for as I want to make some necklaces for my granddaughter. Thanks for the very clear sizing lists for necklaces and bracelets.

I plan to make mine from thin jewellery elastic as I think its a safer option if made at the correct length so that it cannot be rewound again.

Re “anonymous” comment

A clasp is a bit difficult for a 4 year old and I personally think there is more danger if using a length of ribbon for tying as the ribbon could easily be put into a knot, accidentally or otherwise, making it a high risk for strangulation especially if it has been pulled too tight by a child.

Thanks again for the chart:)
